Single Cylinder Tach Needed

I am helping a friend building a garden tractor puller for his grandson. The chassis he bought has a 2" hole in the dash so we would like to put a tach in it. Looking for a 1 cylinder tach that connects to the plug wire or coil negative post and reads correct for a 4 cycle firing order. A tach that clamps to a spark plug wire would read correct on any number of cylinders engine. We have found several of the rectangle models but the proverbial square peg in a round hole does not work.

Take a look at Jeg's or Summit Racing catalog or on line. They have tachs for junior dragsters that are pretty high tech. The one I had went to 8,000 RPM and clipped on the plug wire. Never missed a beat. I think they have full digital ones now that even read out the head temperature.

Shops that deal with racing snowmobiles & ATV's carry such instrumentation . Sometimes with EGT,head temp, pressure iirc and rpm. Royal Distributing catalog lists several.
