Can you run the msd 6a with the flame thrower 1. The msd website suggested running their coil which is 45000 volts , .7ohms.Flamethrower is 40000 and 3ohms which I already run with pertronixs

I would like to add one thing for you to know
...when installing your msd wire it to the
instructions that use a crank trigger set up...not
the distributer set up... as the petronix ignition
is nothing but a baby crank trigger in the
distributer....does the same thing as a cranktrigger
on a balancer... It caused me a lot of headache til
I talked to the msd reps at bowling green ...

MSD is very finicky with what coil you use,if they say it is good,go with it,other wise you will be buying a new box.

I have been running two tractors with MSD boxes and flame thrower coils for three plus years and no problems yet.

MSD 6a box output to coil voltage is 535 volts. So the MSD
coil is designed for this. Pertronix coils are designed for 12
volts. They will take it for a while but you are pushing them
past there design limits. Hope this helps

I was reading some of the archives and it seams to be more of the issues of the .7 ohms coil burning up the pertronixs and also people were saying keep the points and use them as the trigger. Don't want to waste the money if its gonna be a issue

Does the ohms of the coil matter with a msd 6 and points as a trigger? Also the msd 8222. Is epoxy for vibration. Do you think epoxy filled is better on a pulling tractor?

The box fires the coil so ohms dont matter. I only use pertronix to trigger msd. No load on pertronix so they last forever.

If you have more questions please call me. I did an article in the Hook mag. afew years back and the article covers all of this and the different boxes that are available. I use the 6AL2 programmable on all my builds. You lock your distributor and program the advance curve in the box with a laptop computer. They work very well and are very consitant. Gary
