oliver 1550 gas options

Looking to build a stronger 1550 gas engine for general use, that will also do well in farm class .
I'm already looking at getting a set of Murphy rockers
Any other sugestions?

What % nof the time will be farming and what % will be pulling? When I was much younger I always wanted to stroke one and work on the porting including larger 550 valves.

I would guess its going to do 75% farming. If I'm reading correctly the 1550,1555, and 2-62 is the progression. Do all three share the same block casting? If so, I could just put a 2-62 engine in it and have 10 more hp. Or have I overlooked something?

I don't think the 2-62 is the same lineage as the 1550 or 55 but maybe getting a gas 1850 or something along those lines will definitely pep it up for pulling and I don't think it would hurt farming.

The industrial engines were rated for gross engine horsepower, the ag at rated pto. Same engine. Unfortunately no power to be gained there.

The 2-62 and 2-63 are the industrial loader and loader/back hoe and are based on the Oliver 1550 and 1555 utility. I think the gas engine in all of them are the same as far as I know. The one guy I know of that could tell you how to do what you are talking about doing is ED WINKLE. Go over to AG TALK to find him, He use to pull a lot of Oliver's and he can tell you what to do to make it look like farm stock for the pulls but have more power than a stock engine. Bandit

Yes the valves from a oliver 550. Get a set of oliver 77 rods, pre super, offset grind your crank to increase the stroke 1/4", plane 1/8" off the top of those 3 3/4" pistons, port the head for those 550 valves and you will have a 265 cu.in engine that makes good power, most likely 65-70 horses. Chuck: do you have contact info for ED WINKLE his PM is disabled.

Also Who carries 3.75 piston and sleeves for the 1550? All I find are std bore kits

No I don't have Ed's contact. I think the 3 3/4 kits for the 77-770s will work and you can buy them from this site or Korves. Try to get a rebuild kit that is made in America. Chuck
