Tires/Rims/Air Pressure

I have 14.9x38 Firestone tires on 11 inch rims on my Farmall M puller. I pull in the 5500 and 6500 stock classes. It usually does very well on a good track (top 3) with 12lbs of air pressure, 13lbs in heavier class. On poor or below average tracks, it usually does not do as well. I pull on a mixture of both.

I have experimented with different air pressures as conditions require... 8-10 lbs on loose tracks.

I was going to put 13 or 14 inch rims on it to get more rubber on the track, but I'm reluctant to do that, as it does so well now on power tracks.

My question is due to having the more narrow rims, does having more tire pressure assist with the traction? In other words does rim size affect traction and can the lack of having a wider rim be corrected with air pressure?

Everything in life is a choice and compromise.Power tracks are easy, hook and go with front end weight we know we need, different on a soft loose track, most times less air helps, but with high sufficient power we loose so much drawbar height that we barter traction with lower hitch height,--????? Many times a lower HP tractor has the advantage on a softer loose track, because of low air pressure and loosing hitch height.A wider rim makes for a more square tire, which is supposed to help, not always sure if it does, but looks nice.LOL Trial and error is a good teacher.
