Alternator msd ?

If I put a switch on my alternator so I can turn off while pulling, will it affect the MSD ? I was told that for every 25 amps of the alternator it takes 1hp to run. This is why I'm thinking about turning it off while I pull.
Thanks for any in put. Al

To keep my antique puller looking stock I have a + ground 6 volt generator charging a - ground 12 volt system, generator is full fielded with no regulator, I turn it off and on with a rocker switch running a relay to cut the charge wire to the ammeter. I have the relay grounding through a wire to a oil pressure switch in case I turn the engine off and forget to cut the switch. I let it charge during warm up and scaling etc, and then cut it off. The 6 volt generator is rated at 14 amps, on 12 volt it charges double or 28 amps. I have used this set up for 2 years and it works good.

If the battery is charged, you are probably only drawing 3 to 5 amps, even if it is 10 amps and 14 volts that is 140 watts. 140 watts is 0.2 hp, in my opinion, not enough to worry about. If you want to loose the drag, it would be better to eliminate the charging system completely and carry an extra set of batteries.
