with 18.4 x 34 smooth rear cover you can pull at 7500 .Press steel lost me 150 lbs but I went up to 38's .get rid of pony and radiator and you can pull under 7000 but 6500 will still be a trick.Paul
 
1949 R 15/5/38 titans on pressed steel 9 bolt,no pony ,12 volt electric start one battery, no fenders, custom hitch, farmall M radiator alum water pipes, 15 inch front wheels, no pto, alum flat back, dual exhaust, 200 pd driver tractor weights 6350
 
What kind of starter set up to get rid of the pony motor and what kind of HP numbers with JD 830 parts?

The only 830 parts you could use would be pistons, and pumps and injectors. The R I built I used 730 diesel pistons, stock head, 13mm pumps, modified injectors and got 90HP on the dyno, before the pto gears stripped out of it, and I wasn't down to 540 rpm yet. I build modified fuel systems for 2 cylinder diesels. Let me know if I can help
