I'm getting ready to put a set of tires on my Farmall M to go pulling with...bear with me as I'm new to pulling, the tires I was looking to buy, I just found out, are short bar, long bar style...are they okay for pulling?

whiskey is right, they are worthless on the track
they just don't hook up. Been there done that.

I have a set of road worn 16.9x30 on the 435. Very competitive on hard smooth clay. About useless on dry loose tracks. Decent on wet limestone screenings.

got to be fair, long bar short bars are not all created the same,Goodyrs, not so good, some Armstrongs and Firestones are good, most tires will all work, just need to be fine tuned with experience and air ! been there done that,Firestone LBSB are awesome, give them to me if you no likee!!!!!!!!!!

A lot of trial and error involved in pulling. What works on one: may be a disaster on another. I have seen all sorts of tires do well: and: the same do badly elswhere. Juat have to try and decide for yourself.

One near constant is that two tires with say 150square inches of contact area . However one tire is tall and narrow using a 38" rim. The other tire shorter and wider using a 30" rim.
The taller , narrower 38" tire in this example will pull farther.

Firestone and BFG are prefered tread about 30%or less tread on rims 2 in wider than first number[20in rims with 18.4 tires in improved stock or antique type classes.Radials when allowed help.

Some replies are from non pullers, most tires win and lose,so your choice and desire plays some importance. At any given pull and day,you can have the same tires as the winner and place near the back of the pack.Just Saying.

old hard 23 degree firestone field an roads that are around 50% is what I have luck with.. seems as if everyone I talk to hates the long bar short bar tire for what ever reason im not sure. seen them on bigger tractors do well. best of luck. have fun with whatever tire you pick everybody has there own set up they get happy with after they get in the groove with tire pressure and weight placement.
