has anybody used a head gasket from steiner ?? are they all steel ? or should I just get it at deere ? THANK'S..

The gasket from Deere will be a Fel-Pro gasket on John Deere cardboard. Get it from an auto parts store Fel-Pro # 7744SBX (gasket only) or HS7744sbx for the kit with manifold/carb/valve cover gaskets. Gasket alone is around $20. I don't know what brand Steiner has. Fel=Pro is steel one side/composite on the other. Never had a problem with one.

Just a comment on the FelPro head gasket.

Finished up my 51 A, took it to one pull and wondered if tractor gaskets were PermaTorque like our racing engines which do not relax, re-torque is not required.

The tractor head gasket did relax, took 1/8 to 1/4 turn on all studs for the torque wrench to click at 150 lb-ft.

You are supposed to retorque them Hot, warm it up to 180+ & then retorque. Gasket is same as originals basically. This is stated in repair manual & it will fail if you don't . Some guys like to let it cool first but either way it needs it.
