What is a good piston to use on a stock rod to raise comp on a 301 that will pull in a 4 mph class or a low gr class, I know bigger is better but wanting a good runner for my daughter without breaking the bank, just like to hear what yal have done or say is a good piston for this application thanks lee b

Do they make LP pistons for that engine.I have a 460 with 301 and it does very well with stock combine engine it runs 2600rpm.They did sell over bore for the 301 up to 60 over at one time.

Been there done that wouldn't do it again. I am running Chevy 366 truck pistons. With milled head & high lift cam I'm at 10.6 to 1 compression 103 hp @ stock 460 rpm. I had to go up to 102 octane to get it to run the best & get the max hp. With same cam & head & stock pistons I was about 8.5 to 1 95 hp & ran 87 octane. If I was you I would go with a bigger cam, mill the head a bunch & stay about 9 to 1 & be able to run pump gas. Just my thoughts but I am cheap & lazy!(lol)
