diesel fuel smell

i had to drain the diesel from the tank it had a
odor to it like it was very old and more orange than
red farm fuel. what can i add so this wont do this.
and also a additive to make the fuel burn a little
hotter for pulling. the fuel was about 10 months
old,i only keep 5 gallons in it at all times

Have no clue what old fuel smells like. My experience is old fuel unless it is Bio with algae will work just fine. I started a tractor up that had been sitting for seven years, with no fuel problem. To get more BTUs from diesel you can mix in a little oil that is a little heavier like power steering oil or two stroke oil. #6 bunker oil has way more BTUs but your pump would probably not appreciate it.

I have heard of diesel pullers using 10 weight motor oil to make the fuel burn hotter.

I use a quart of transmission fluid per tank of fuel in tractor, two cycle works good too

Im running Lucas fuel treatment and a quart of no-ash/ashless 2-stroke (approx. 100:1) at the moment in my truck, seems to have cut some of the chatter in the injectors. This ULSD is not good on pre-2007 diesels for sure. There's some "hotter" cetane products out there and are priced $$$$$$ accordingly $$$$$$.
