John Deere G

Anybody have any luck pulling a stock G with 15.5 -38 tire. Thinking the smaller diameter will slow down the speed in 2nd gear to be more competitive. Rules are 3.5 mph maximum speed, am pulling in 6500 lb class

Around here you can't give away a 15.5 for pulling but I'm with you on this. If the lugs are worn down & they bite on a good track it may be a good combo for a G in 2nd gear with those mph limits. There are many times I wish I had 15.5's then 2nd gear for me would be a good option.

You"d be better off with 16.9 x 38"s in 1st gear than 15.5 x 38"s in 2nd. Next best choice would be 14.8 x 38"s. 15.5 x 38"s would be about the same as 13.6 x 38"s

6500 with a stock G in 2nd won't get you very far no matter what tire you run. Best try 1st and see how it does.

I use 14.9-38's on the stock rims on my 60 horse G and try to adjust the air pressure to the track.....soft loose track-8-9 psi, hard, or power track 11-14 lbs. Seem to work pretty good for all purposes, pulling, plowing, parading and tractor still looks "right" for shows too. Oh, on loose tracks where rules allow I use second gear, but on power tracks I still use first.

Round up a trailer load of 15.5's and I'll come get them. Hard to find used one's around here. As for the G, 1st and only first! I've never heard of a 14.8. A 14.9 is taller than a 15.5 though.
