wheel weights vs suitcase

Is it better to carry your weights on a bar or is it better to use wheel weights. I pull my farmall m in 4th sometimes 3rd in the 5500 . Most of the time I run 900 in wheel weights. Is it hurting anything by turning that much weight or better to carry it on a bar

on the bar you can place the weight where you want
it. in the middle it will help the front and the
back. the lower the better .

I choose hanging suitcase style weights. Reason being, as mentioned, you can move them around. One club I pull with pulls with a 6' chain. This requires much more weight on my rear weight rack rather than the front ones. The club I am pulling with this sunday will use a 3' chain so I will need to put more weight on the front racks and alot less on the back.

Wheel weights are ok just to make weight, but the suitcase weights are more effective since you get the weight behind the rear axle. Do youself a favor and make a belly bar too. When you learn how to use the belly bar on your tractor balance will be a lot easier to attain.

My club doesn't allow weights behind the Axel, and with wheel weight I was wondering if it hurt momentum , turning that weight . I do have a Axel bracket to hang suitcase but wheel weights get some weight behind the axel

The momentum of the tractor is increased when weight is added. At the beginning of the pull, engine power is used to overcome momentum to bring the tractor/sled to speed. At the end of the pull as the tractor/sled slows down momentum acts to maintain the tractors speed.

In the case of wheel weights the weight is rotating where as suit case weights do not however, the increase in momentum should be the same.

Not sure about the momentum but if you put wheel weights on they go all the way around the axle and put the weight squarely on the axle not behind it at all.
