What tractor should I use

My 11 year old son wants to start pulling and not shure which tractor to start with. Div 2 type 3500 and 4000 lbs. Around here wds dominate these classes. He wants a MM, what model would be a good choice? 335? 445? ZB?. Otherwise I have a 40 H and have a 350 parts tractor I could use the c-175 in the H but it needs overhaul. Or my uncle has a wd with a combine engine already in it for $1000. Im building a cockshutt 40 for myself, maybe a cockshutt 30 for him but im not shure if it would be able to keep up with the wds. I know uncles wd would be best bang for the buck but I would like to be different but don't want to spend a lot either. What would you do?

If the Wd is a good tractor buy it. make sure your son really
wants to pull, and tell him that you will find a different tractor to
be his. Ie let him pull for a year and make sure he wants to
keep at it. And start collecting parts.

As far a tractors go. With enough time, money and know how,
anything can be made to run well.

Rules make a diff on tractor selection as well.

Its darn hard to beat an oliver in stock classes and also in open. I have a decently built 77 oliver that pulls from 3500-5500 in 3-5mph classes.

email is open if you are interested.

If he wants a Moline get him a Moline. They are
cheap and easy to make competitive. I would go with
a 335 and start with a U302 engine. With just a
combine engine a WD will need to be geared down
some. There is a lot you can do to make a H pull
well. I pull against one that has at least 115 hp.
You can make almost anything competitive. Just go
for it. It makes anything more interesting if you
have a partner! Vic
