Newbie. How do I find out how much tractor I have?

I bought a supposedly "built" JD A. Have not been able to find out the builder. How do I find out what I have so I can plan modifications, if any?
Pull the head to determine bore/stroke?
Get the carburetor identified?
PTO is blocked off so how do I dyno it? (am in NE MO) Are there belt pulley dyno's being used?
Can a tractor be run on a roller automotive dyno?
Thanks for any suggestions you can offer.

if you bought it local , you should ask the previous owner . pulling it down may not be necessary if you dyno it and it has enough for the classes you want to pull. it takes about 10 hp a 1000 pounds of weight so 6k ought to take about 60 hp . some folks have adapters that bolt to the flywheel for testing a Deere.

The prevous owner didn't know the builder. Local pullers thought it was built somewhere in western MO.
Anybody know of dyno's available in MO or easter IL?
Thanks

At this event they often have a display with a pulley driven dyno. This drives from the clutch pulley. It is pretty accurate from what I hear. You may be able to call the people listed to find out if the dyno will be there.

All that said,HP is not all of the formula. Go pulling and see how it goes.
