diesel piston question

Hey guys when you cc a diesel piston do you cc just the bowl or the bowl and valve reliefs in the piston ?Thanks !
 
If accuracy is an issue then everything that takes up space below the head surface should be figured, including compressed head gasket thickness.

On a diesel the valve protrusion or recession is a factor if you are after accuracy.

If it is a piston only issue, the bowl and valve reliefs would be the concern, after rereading your post it looks like you may be just comparing piston to piston in which case the above may be true but not relevant
