ih six cylinder head

Was doing a little picking this weekend at a old pullers house and found a old head buried under his work bench. He said its a silver diamond 264. Told me to put it on my 560 and hold on for the ride. Its a straight valve, 14mm spark plug. The casting number is 124435 or 124485. Is this the 264 or 221 head? Or is there a difference? Then to the next problem, its a bare head. No valves, springs, rockers or cover. Any leads on parts I need. Thank you in advance. MD

There never was a Silver Diamond 264.

SD engines were either a 220 or a 240. The Black Diamond engines came in the BD220 and BD240, as well as the BD264. Not 100% sure, but I believe the BD264 was a tilt-valve engine, and not a straight valve engine like all the SD's were. BD220's and BD240's could have been either a straight valve [early] or a tilt valve [late]. And all the BG engines were tilt valve.

Maybe he meant it was for a 264 tractor motor. Is there any where I can look up the casting number just to make sure its the right head for pulling. Its been under that bench since the 70s and I just want to make sure its the head he thinks it is. Want to make sure before I start putting money into it. Thanks.

I have a question. What is the advantage in these heads? If it is compression why not just mill a stock head to the max then you would have a later model head and a lot less money and easy to get parts for. I'am not being a dick I honestly don't understand. Thanks Lee

A C-264 was a 4-cylinder engine in a Super M. There was no "Diamond" designation for tractor engines. And the C-263 used in the 560 was not called a "Diamond" motor of any kind, either...and it was a 6-cylinder.

Is the straight valve BD head the same head as the SD head? There is a complete 220 BD engine at a local junk yard and was wondering if its worth picking up or should I keep looking for a SD?
