John Deere B Gear Swap

Talk to Ray at Extreme and you won't NEED to slow the gearing down, why, you just may end up (like him) using 3rd, or in a Late Styled B, I saw him pull a sled 13 MPH in 6th gear..

He is feeling some better, you may catch him at "Extreme"..

I believe the reduction gears are the same & it's the tranny gears that are different. I've never heard of this being done on B's, it is possible on A's though. I think the later parts will be too different to fit, but not 100% sure.

I think it's rather impressive when a geared down tractor manages to beat the faster higher hp tractors. Really takes perfect balancing and an eye for the track.

Momentum wins pulls, faster you go, the more momentum you have. Thats why most pulls have a mph limit. I cant think of one reason why you would want to go slower. It doesnt take much to vastly improve hp from stock or try a smaller tire. Very few pulls offer conditions that favor a slower machine over the faster.

Yessir, that was an active sled and he did it just to see if it would..

Never seen him use less than 3rd to pull and usually 4th in the upper weight classes for his B..

One of his (Unstyled B) has won Div III here in Ohio (Plain City) two consecutive years in a row and that one uses 2nd and 3rd..not bad for a 4-speed..Just points that front straight out in front and adds power as needed, like the "Big Boys"..never powers out, or even pulls down ..

It's a 6.125" bore & over 7" stroke, which is over 440 cubic inches & all the goodies. Heisler head, cam, ported, big carb etc.

I did say 6th, in that one Pull and it ran up to full RPM before the sled pulled it back down..
13MPH

OK..I am to tired to argue..you will pull against one soon.
I will await your post..

The sled we pull is set up for tractors 3500-8500 pounds and has no adjustment so for a 3500 pound tractor you can"t get much momentum. I"m getting beat by a 47 B which has a lower first gear. Our motors are built almost exactly the same so that"s why I"m wanting to slow it down.
