Removing steel wheel centers

I have a pair of steel 10 bolt wheels that have rims I need for my cast centers. The steel centers
are spot-welded to the rims. I would like to remove
the centers without dismounting the tires. I have a
plasma cutter, air hammer, grinders, etc. What
method have you used?

cut the center out right next to the lip that is spot welded, can weld back on.I did it cut off, welded back on with tubes in,wet rag worked fine.

Thanks- In my case, I"m using the rims on cast centers, so they won"t be welded back in. I"m hoping to clean up the rims where the centers are spot welded in. I"ll cut the centers next to the spot weld flange to get them out of the way, but then have to get rid of what"s left.

I wonder if filling the tubes with water would help soak up any of the heat that gets transferred through? Kind of like how you can boil water in a milk carton. As long as there's water in the carton it doesn't burn.

Calm down. I'm not planning on welding on the rim. Please read my post before making foolish comments. I'm wanting to use the rim only, on cast centers.
