I'm looking to build a unstyled a to pull what can I do to boost the pony's? I'm getting back in the pulling scene so I don't want to go all in on the first go around but want to have fun not finish last I have been that guy that's why I stopped and money was a factor back then

I know money butt I dont want to start out buying a monster crank new block custom pistons just to go and win back my hook fees

If you are looking to make money and not just enjoy the atmosphere and the fun of making an old piece of machinery work its heart out for you, then you are barking up a gum stump. As for making the A pull, lighten it as much as you can IN THE REAR of the tractor because they are nose light and you need to put weight up front. I put over size light weight pistons in mine and a flat head and I have a ball. I manage to put a few tractors on their trailers sometimes but I always have fun. If this isn"t what you are looking for, then you best take up a different hobby friend.

Not a tractor pull if it is all one brand. Just look
at some of the pullers on here lately and you will
find they are cut up with no factory front ends
running top cuts to push out other tractors. They
should be running non turbo class where they have
comp. I guess it makes them feel better.

I"m working on "48 A myself. I didn"t want to spend on a welded crank right away either. I took some of those $ and had the axles cut and bought a light weight rear cover and weight brackets from JDTH.

Old Deeres need air, you should end up with a nice 1st or second gear puller with high valve lift and lot of compression. Call Josh Blackburn to get the engine where you want to be in power.

Put late model A crank and high compression m@w pistons with a nice cam and some head carb and manifold work should make 45 horse

I have an A puller for sale. What year is your unstyled A. Maybe we could make some kind of trade. I collect but I don't pull anymore. I'm asking $8000.00 for the tractor and if you built this tractor today you'd have 12 or 13 thousand in it including the tractor. My name is Bill and my number is 614-996-8126. Give me a call if your interested.

It is a 1951. It has 12 inch front wheels and prof cut 16.9 on the back. It has a factory flat back, adjustable draw bar, wheelie bars, weight bar middle and front, a clutch lever from a 60. It is stroked to 8.750. It is 515 cid. It is bored to 6.125". It has 720 diesel pistons and an ultradine cam. Murfield rocker arms and crank. Dicks welding modified the head. The head has bigger ports and a matching manifold. It also has a beefed up starter. The tractor belonged to my brother and he passed away.

(quoted from post at 05:55:42 05/05/14) Because some of us like certain brands and don"t sell out to something we don"t like.

Yeah I know. A lot of guys see all that neat JD stuff at TSC and say "Wow I like JDs, I gotta get one and go to a tractor pull!!"

Well, when it come's to follow whats popular no brand comes even close to the farmall's (Nothing against them ) It's all about fitting in you know,Because if you do win with another brand they will gang up on you.Seen it happen MANY times!
