Striped out threads

I pulled the threads out of the block when retorqing the head. Anybody ever loctite in a stud and have it hold, I don't want to take the head back off and peal done the block again and get it machined.

Helicoil would be an option. Loctite won't work. Way to much stress for that application. Or get a different block?

Are there more threads deeper in the hole, or could it be tapped deeper? If yes, use a longer bolt or a stud and nut.

How much do helicals hold? Not much left for threads. Hoping to put helical in without pulling head. Any chances of that?

There are various thread repair inserts all require the hole to be drilled larger and new threads cut. Since the threads in the block are larger that part is stronger than before - assuming there is enought wall thickness around the insert.

Yes, it would be possible to install a helicoil without removing the head - provided the hole in the head is large enough to install the insert through. Also, you would need a tap drill and insert tooling long enough to reach through the head to the block. As an example, a helicoil insert to repair a 7/16-14 thread requires the hole to be tap drilled 29/64". The helicoil tap OD for the insert threads is 0.535". Therefore. the hole in the head will need to be a little greater than the 0.535" diameter.

My advise to you, from experience, pull the head now and do it the right way. It's a lot easier to do it right than do it all later after you blow a head gasket or worse. You look a lot smarter now than you will later when you have to explain why your new engine just shot craps.

Pull The head and do it correct. There are different types of heli coils. At work we use the ones that have pins around the outside of them so that they hold. They are thicker and really work well. We don't do that on head bolts but Im sure it will work for a tractor engine.

I would heli coil it. If you have access to a mag base drill I would use that to drill it, it will keep things nice and square when drilling. Pull the head and dill the hole with it, and if it has the variable speed and your super careful you can even start the tap with it to. It takes lots of lube and only start the first few threads.

Heli-Coils are OK but not the best. If you have room use a thread repair insert. It's a hard steel insert threaded inside to you normal thread size and the outside is a larger thread. PAI parts has them, McMaster-Carr is where I get mine.

Or simply drill and tap to the next largest size and get a new stud as long as there's room for it. It would take less room than either the Heli-Coil or the thread insert. .

Locktite will only be a waste of time.

do it right now,or fix more later,no short cuts,if you even think that loctite would hold a head bolt, you need more informed people to do it for you.

Yeah go thru all the extra work pulling the head- not, get a metric stud one size bigger, screw right in there!
