WATA Open class speed limit

After recieving quite a bit of feedback about putting an 8 mph speed limit on the Open Class, it sounds like this is not a very popular rule change.

So we will continue on with No speed limit just like the previous years.

We can discuss the possibility of a speed limit or maybe adding an 8 mph class at the pulls this summer, but for this year the Open class will be Open speed.

See you at our first pull, May 17th in Blanchard.

Out of curiosity, how many of the pullers in the open classes top 10 or 8 MPH hallway down the track? I don"t have a problem either way just curious. Hopefully I can make one or more of the WATA pulls this year.

The top speed by monitor at the Mid Atlantic in Pa. pull was a Non Turbo M Farmall at 21.2 MPH with a Red Diamond modified.

I knew them M pullers wouldn't like going that slow.

Just a promising sign of a progressive club add a class rather
than going backwards.

Oh and AP very few.

Allen,
We would love to have you come up for a good time.

The Oliver 77's are over 10 mph, the Farmall M's with a standard 4th are right around 8mph. Then Gary and Warren show up and put on a good show, they were each clocked at like around 17 mph

At our 2 big pulls there will be 20-30 tractors that can run over 8 mph.

We are located in Remus Michigan.

unfortunately speed limits, LIMIT the advantage huge engines have over those that are not so mighty, and please keep the remarks sane as I know everyone has the same opportunities, but not everyone can have a RED Diamond Mod,if we all did, then who would *itch. And now we will all wonder about safety equipment.Twenty plus mph is a lot for no suspension and limited control. I have done it too,but when we start hurting drivers, fans and officials things will change in a hurry, insurance is a huge factor all ready. Just saying!!!!!!!! Make it a 12 mph speed, then it is a driver's class, with skill needed to win, anybody can just let the clutch out.

Which pulls are the two big pulls? I want to be sure to mark them down on my schedule. Sounds like a great time even if Gary, Warren can pull the sled down the tractor twice as fast as I can. :^)

The August pull in Barryton. This pull is 100% payback to the top three places plus it will have a $1500 purse that we split among the 2 biggest antique classes and the 2 biggest plus classes.

The Labor day pull in Remus is also 100% payback, the weather is finally starting to cool off, this is a great time.

That's why we call it an "open" class, they have all the safety equipment including roll cages. Often they pull with the V8'ts. They are a lot safer than a 6000rpm 4-560 with a cast flywheel. If you don't want classes like that that is your perogative, what do you do with V8 powered tractors, they are popular all over the nation, certianly not stock block and some are not even using tractor drivelines.

This discussion just points up the difference in pulling in different regions of the country/world. Some of the world is not regimented by a master sanctioning organization and anyone who has pulled in the East at the Mid-Atlantic will attest to the quality of pulling with classes for everyone.

Whether you have a true open class or not, I think 8mph is a fantastic idea. It requires a healthy amount of horsepower as well as skill, allowing many moderate AND large stroker tractors to play together in one class. Even the Deere's could have a real shot!

You should have a speed limit. Nobody is going to beat Bakers Case if it is an open class. An 8 mph class would give a lot of the tractors a chance. Im a very good friend with Gary and know his tractor is one of the best out there. Gary built most of the good running farmalls out there and then built a Case that can out run everything. If you take a tractor like I own I can run 8 mph and be competitive. But not in a wide open class. I think 8 mph is a good number.

(quoted from post at 22:56:33 04/30/14) If they beat him they had to earn it. He has some tough engines out there every where.

I watched a guy beat Gary in 2 classes with no speed limit at Remus last labor day weekend.

Given the safety equipment and track barriers typically seen.
Sooner or later insurance companies will crack down after a
tractor and sled crush a crowd of women and children.
Perhaps as 998877m said. There should be a brisk but
reasonable speed limit. The crowd is just as thrilled seeing
somebody almost bumping the speed limit at 8 mph. As they
are seeing the occasional 16 mph tractor. The average person
in the crowd isn"t going to know 8mph from 16mph anyways.
