D17 block deck height

I always use 12.625" as every block I've measured comes up within a couple thou of that. There was a much higher number posted one time by someone who can't measure.

D17 has 4.5 stroke half that at 2.250 plus 7.500 rod length plus pistons comp height plus distance piston is below deck senor I bet its a little more thank 12 5/8 pulgadas

best to measure ..I've found several that have been "decked" .010 to .020 to true them up

We call this stacking tolerances. The errors in parts and measuring practices from each part and start adding them up, it will deviate from the actual deck height. Little things like sleeve protrusion from the block deck would need to be taken into account. This is not the way to properly measure deck height. It's alright for tinkerers and amateurs, those who don't understand geometry or those who rely on tape measures and use fractions.

For any serious work one had best use precision measuring instruments properly. Measure from the main bearing bores to the block deck and add half the main bore diameter. Quite often the block will actually be slightly different from one end to the other.
