have a 450 that we use around the farm daily, I have the motor out of it. I was wondering if anyone could tell me where I could get sleeves and pistons for it if I have it bored 4 1/4. everything is stock in it, we don"t pull with it but, since its out, I thought maybe I would try and get a little more power out of it. Its at machine shop now, just had the block checked out. Not looking to start changing everything, I could not find an overbore kit for it to 4 1/4. I posted it here because guys that pull usually know where to get these parts when standard overbore kits are not available. Thanks for your time.

With the sleeves removed, the bare block is a rough 4.25" bore. You could bore the block anywhere from 4.280" - 4.310" and run in the bare block without sleeves. You can go up to 4.375", but you need to sonic test the block and be certain you bore dead center of the cylinder casting because the casting gets thin at this size.

If you want to keep liners in the motor, and keep it forever rebuildable, then stay with the 4.125 bore. Have the machine shop check the installed liners for size and roundness. If you want more power, have higher compression pistons made. 8:1 should run on regular gas, and 8.5:1 should be good for premium.

Port match the manifold to the head. Get a lp manifold. Advance the cam to 102 - 104 degrees. Have a cam reground for performance. Turn the governor up a tad. 10% more is very common for pullers, and won't hurt it any on the farm.

Thanks for the replies. North Puller, looking to keep the sleeves and go 4.25. Think im going to have to have pistons made. Thanks again

Ive got a 450 block C-281 that had the M&W 4.25" pistons and sleeves in it. The blocks were bored to 4.375" and a sleeve was used bringing the bore back down to 4.25". Ive been told that a 450 block if its real good. Rust free water jacket and no core shift can be bored to 4.40" I ordered a set of pistons from Aries at 4.375" alittle under $200 a piston. My sleeves were junk so Im running pistons on the block. No hard block in water jacket.
