JD A stroke / piston costs

I have the A apart and am at a cross roads on which
way to go. Bore needs to be 5.75. Is there a good
combo for adding stroke to fit off the self pistons
and get the compression where it needs to be?

I was planning on keeping the original stroke but
maybe using available pistons and adding some stroke would help towards the cost of adding stroke?

The only way to add stroke is to remove the crank & either offset grind it to a smaller diameter (very limited change) or spend $1200 having it welded up & turned & straightened & balanced.

What Gtx is trying to say I believe is by changing pistons you aren't changing stroke. Just adding compression. The piston still travels the same amount.

Yes, I was thinking if there was a store bought piston with a compression height that would allow for adding stroke to the crank. And would match the wrist pin diameter too.

sorry for the confusion.

Used pistons from a model 70 gasser measure 5.75 and are a inexpensive option. Just bush the wrist pin and remove the wiper ring.
Might have to cut the skirt for clearance. If your using aluminum pistons don't forget to give yourself lots of skirt clearance or they will bind as the engine heats up. Many automotive machine shops will make the mistake of not enough clearance.

I had my crank offset ground...josh made rods..pistons..cam..rockers and did HD..it ran very good..I got a Murphys manifold also...u could keep stock crank..get pistons from josh and have him lengthen ur rods out some
