Just a thought of what could be done to make a puller out of a 2520 JD. How big can you go with a non-turbo engine or turbo including HP? How light and so on. Are there any out there pulling?
Thanks

It's to new to pull Antique. Also to heavy for the size of the engine. 4 cyl. A lot more you can do with a 4010. 6 cyl. Can find a 466 from a combine to start. Might make the 2520 engine this big with big dollars. Might start with a 1010 which is a 430 with a 4 cyl engine. Should be able to make this engine 350 cu. and 100 hp. You could get this rig down to pull in the 3250 class. If you could pull a 1960 model. Vic

my friend used to pull one with a 276 with a turbo it would run with a good 4020 but most places wouldn"t let it pull because of the turbo. It had well over 100 hp, weighed around 6000 lbs I think. Not a good tractor if you have to run against other turbo tractors, but it was a nice running tractor.

To pulls "stock" the turbo is not an option as previously stated.
A natural aspirated 276 is no slouch and will make 100HP if revved to 2500-2800rpm . More if the smoke screw is dialled in. Dubuques have a good breathing cross flow cylinder head.
The 2520 tractor is a side console 3020 with a Dubuque engine. In hind sight Deere should have never bothered with a four cylinder Waterloo engine .
Almost too rare and desirable to cut up into a puller.

I have to agree with most of the others. 2520's are still in good demand as both working tractors and as collector tractors. In good original condition, they can sell for as much as a side console 4020. If your tractor is running, you could probably sell it and then buy or build a different pulling tractor with no money out of your pocket.

It does depend on which class and weight you want to pull in. It's your tractor, you can do what you want with it.

(quoted from post at 21:11:06 04/02/14) not to hijack, but what about a 1530? i have a 300 backhoe with a bad engine n wondered if a 404 would fit?

Not even close. The Dubuque and Waterloo engines at most shared alternators, fuel filters, and green paint.
The even though a 2510/2520 is a early 3020 and side console 3020. The bell housing bolt pattern and the front engine mounts are totally different.
Iirc the 4030 used a Dubuque engine too. Actually most of the new tractors with 3, r and 6 cylinder engines up to 414cu" and approaching 200HP. They all run Dubuque engines in the Waterloo chassis.

thanks. ya, years ago we had an early 400 hoe. had the automatic forward n reverse with the twin gear shift. after going thru the hyd system, it was a real good machine in warm weather. then we got this 300, n engine was rough. dad got it goin n used it, sold the 400, n used this lil 300 for years. its spun a rod, have to rebuild the crank, but block has been repaired, like they broke front end off at one time. hard to find a block here.

have you looked at the rules for cvatpa.com or catpa.com and ottpa.com and see what fits to those local rules for modified tractors if that's what your talking about pulling .
