I'm thinking about getting a moline to tinker with and try my hand a pulling. Besides the hand and foot clutch are there many big differences between a U and a UB and would a U with a one piece block be capable of making the same power as a two piece block or would the two piece be a little cheaper in the long run. Thanks.

You will be very limited on options using the 1-piece (or "K" ) engine. If you want to build on a "budget"; using the split block engine gives you a bunch of horsepower increase options using factory parts from other engines and tractors. About the only way to get significant increase from a K requires machine shop work.

The U is lighter to start with and the UTS has faster gears. Not a fan of the hand clutch. The split block engine is the only way to go a lot more options to build the engine or put a 403 in it and have a good 3 to 5 mph tractor right out of the chute. With the Moline you go as big as you want or as mild as you want relative inexpensive. If you go big a lot of guys are playing the RPM game where the Moline is at a disadvantage in a unchecked class but still gives them a run for their money. With that said we pull a UB that is on a diet this winter and looking for a set of UTS bull and pinion gears.
