Mechanical Calipers

(quoted from post at 19:11:25 02/12/14) Mechanical? I have the dynalite hydraulic type that work well. Don't understand the mechanical....

Used for parking brake or go karts. They are really small and only weigh 1 lb. has a mechanical actuator or cam lever. Comes with pads for $95 ish. No need for master cyl.

Check out summit or jegs.

I am thinking of trying them on my oliver.

That's what I want to use them on my 88. Looks like make a back plate and a way to mount them and use the regular disc after takeing the pads off.

A typical high performance hydraulic brake system with a reasonably hard push on the pedal creates 1000 psi output from the MC, using a 4 piston (1"dia) caliper, equates to around 3,100 lb of clamping force on a disc.

Go-kart caliper...tractor wheel...it will not even notice anything is attached, unless maybe 6 or more can be fashioned around one disc.

I used a set of the very small Wilwood hydraulic calipers that
used a pad that was a a little larger than an egg. That set up
wow was on a IH 460 and they would slow you down but that
was about it. On another tractor I used the Wilwood 4 Piston
caliper that does not weigh much more than the single one (
just a few ounces difference). This one has aluminum rotors as
well and it will slide the rear wheels at full speed. Very happy
with these.

Check out Paulson performance.
The hydraulic wilwood I have are dynapro. I do think the spot calipers are worth a try. It does not take much pressure to get the tractor to turn.

Hi Jim
Was looking at their catalog tonight. Looks like a person could save a lot by useing a GM caliper over a Wilwood. Not as pretty but neither am I. But should get the job done.

i am running a mechanical set up much stronger than the one you are thinking about on the hubs of a JD. I am not happy with them. Sick with the hydraulic set up.
