tire ply's?

Just curious as to what ply count you guys shoot for in stock antique class pulling tire. I got a free set of Akuret 16.9 8 ply tires. They seem a bit stiff and I didn't loose as much weight as I had expected when I went from cast to steel wheels. Wondering if I should trade them for something different.

More plys usually mean they will be heavier..

In "Antique class", most more serious pullers would prefer 4 ply and put the difference in weight up on the front.

Have Fun..!

I have a set of 18.4 38 akuret tires that I tried
to farm with. they were so thin on carcass that
everything just stuck right threw. I know they say
8 ply but I would say 6 ply or less. I finally took
them off with 98% tread. just my opinion

We have some akuret tires that are 16.9x38 on a 7710 Ford. Those things were a bear to mount. The sidewalls on them were stiff as a 4x4. Really surprised when you said you had such poor luck out of the 18.4s.
