Ignitor 2 problems

Burnt up the second set this year. Using their coil speced to the Ignitor.

Any ones thoughts would be welcome. I have the old WICO dist. back on, but the parts for it are hard to come by. I was using a Autolight dist. with the Ignitor. Bushings worn out in it need to get it rebuilt.

Any good places to get that done?

I ruined two standard Ignitors while using solid core plug wires. After talking to Pertronix tech support I switched to insulator core wires and have been good ever since.

Using spiral core wires, but good suggestion.

I had to use resistor from msd coil is getting to hot and burning up ignitor took three before I found that out been fine since also switched to msd 8.5 wires

Good advice. I will discuss with Pertronix, since I am using their coil, that they recommend to match their Ignition.

Typical, IMHO.

Use the Ignitor to trigger a REAL ignition box (MSD, Accel, Mallory, etc.).

The link below shows how to do that with a Ignitor. Might want to contact Pertronix Tech Support to verify it can be done with a II.

What is the coil primary resistance? While Pertronix says this
unit is good for a 0.6ohm coil. Unless your tractor is a 9000rpm
V8 running 20psi of supercharged boost. Your tractor"s ignition
requirements are not all that demanding. Use an ordinary
Napa 12V , 3 to 4 ohm coil.

Says right on the Pertronix web site that using solid core wires
will ruin the control modular. Use quality spiral wound
suppression wires.

I used their 0.6 ohm coil 45001

(quoted from post at 12:26:06 10/24/13) What are the specs on that power plant you are trying to spark
?

CASE 700 Gasser 267 CI CCP is 185psi running No ethanol 93 octane. Used exclusively for pulling @ 2300rpm.

No need for a 0.6 ohm or even 1.5ohm coil .This engine has
lots of dwell time to rebuild the magnetic field in the coil.
Voltage and energy required to spark those plugs is modest
too.
Use a 3.0 ohm, 12V coil and spiral wound ignition wires .
Autolite 216 or 3116 plugs .

Thanks. 3116s are my plug of choice. Shes now sporting a 12V coil w/3.0 ohms, Spiral wound wires already on it. Now sporting a WICO DB dist. with points. Ignitor is on it's way back to Pertronix for checking.
