1960 Farmall 140 puller

So I am interested in preparing my 1960 Farmall 140 for the pulls next year. My club, Western Mass tractor pullers allows tractors up to the year 1960 so it just makes the cut. I just use this tractor as my garden and snowplow tractor. Because of that, it sits most of the year. So, why not pull with it?

I am not looking to re-invent the wheel. And if your a troll I am not interested in your sarcastic remarks.
I would like to pull it in the 2500# and 3500# classes. It will remain stock. According to tractordata, this tractor has more pulling power in first gear than a super C. It is supposed to have a 1.9 mph first gear. It has firecraters in it. Obviously, it will be at somewhat of a disadvantage over a super C because of tire size though but I'll see how it goes.

Just looking for people's opinion on how "cultivision" tractors do in pulls.

I have a Super A that I pull once on a while. It also has the low 1st gear and doesn't do a half bad job pulling!
its pretty heavy so I pull it 3000-3500.
I have a belly bar and have to put most of the wt on the seat side.

We pull a 1941 farmall BN. We can get it in 2500# & go to 4000#. We have front, middle, & back weight brackets. Our hitch is adjustable up &down, plus in&out. Normally we put the weight of the driver on the left side to balance the tractor. We run 16.9x24 tires that being said I guess you know we are not stock. The small tractors are just as much fun to pull as the big ones. We pull more classes & throw less weights. We pull against a 140 in Ohio & it doesn't do to bad

The 140 will be difficult to get in the
2500 pound class!

My farmall A is a 1939 Hand Crank start
with 12.4x24 tires and I will make 2500
pounds with a 100lbs allance!

My BN will make it But like the other BN
mine is not stock and I Run 13.6x28 tires
with lite centers!

A-140 are harder to balance than the B,BN
But can be done by adding weigh to the
light side first on all these tractors (A-
140 Driver Side,B,BN left side) then
balance like any other Tractor!

I'll probably pull it in 3500 lbs class then. If your A is about 2400 lbs theres no way my 140 will make the cut because I'm not taking the touch control off.
I'll probably pull it in 4500lbs class but I wont be expecting much there.

That's the only reason I pull any, is for the fun of it,
thats supposed to be what its about, however som
will lie cheat and steal to win a 50 cent trophy

Farmall Strong

If your talking to me, I am from Connecticut. I do pulls in Connecticut and mass. Sometimes New hampshire. I rarely drive more than 90 minutes to any pull.

Wait 'till you really get the bug. There are a few guys up here that will drive to FL pretty much every winter. A few years ago a buddy and I both pulled our trailers two and a half hours one way to the same track three times in one season.

There's so much pulling to be done within 90 minutes... I suppose some day I could take a long trip but I dont see that anytimes soon.
There happens to be other things that we do. We have two kids, and the stuff they do. We both work. Then there is maintenance around the household(gardening, chickens and ducks, etc).
Before you know it, going to 8 pulls a year takes up alot of time. We do a couple over nighters with tractor pulls. This year it was at Cliff Clarks. It will be there next year too.

Yes, you can put only so much time into it, and the cost of travel with fuel going so high is a big factor too. That is why five of us got together to be able to put on some local pulls. Three guys bought a sled together, another, along with his wife, put together all the sign-up and PA needs, and I built a drag and a track. Now we have four pulls within an hour for most of us, with good enough tracks and equipment to draw others in from much further away. There are usually 50 to 125 tractors, so the competition is still there to make them worthwhile meaningful pulls, and you know that you are getting measured against some strong competition.

Yea I hope to do a few more over nighters at other pulls. We dont "camp" at campgrounds. We do all our camping at tractor pulls or shows.
After doing it this way, I cant see doing it any other way.
