Super 99gm or 1950gm, which should I pull with?

Hey guys I have a Super 99gm and a 1950gm both stock. Which would make a better puller, the
3-71 or 4-53? This would be in stock classes running 6mph, running 18.4x38s 8500#-10,500#.
The 99 will make 8500# easy, not so sure about the 1950gm.
 
The 1950 makes more power, if you haven't overhauled the 99 with n-series components and the 53 runs a lot higher stock rpms. I don't know why but I think the 99 is a lot more fun to drive so that would be my preference. You have to have pulled the hubs on the 99 to easily make 8500, it can be done otherwise though, I've never weighed a 1950, would be curious myself what they weigh, I have one here with 23.1-34's, now those are some heavy hubs!

I don't know much about the GMs, but there has been a 1950 at two of our pulls that can't pull your hat off, and a super 99 GM that is competitive against tractors with way more power.
 
The 3-71 is easier to make bigger, BUT the hydro-shift in the 1950 makes it the one. Also the ones you see that run good are not stock! Vic
 
8500 is easy to make without the heavy draw bar. There are no tractors pulling that are "stock". I ran mine over 3500 rpm's and beat many 200hp tractors.
 
I think if you wanted to strip 1950 you could get it pretty light. Fiberglass nose, 18.4-38 pressed steel rims/tires with dual hubs, remove rear hitch components and make a nice pulling hitch and weight brackets. You could even remove fuel tank and install a 5 gallon one somewhere. Is your 1950 a row crop? You could even put tricycle front end under it and remove rockshaft housing.
 
Is there any place that could do a custom cam grind on the 3-71? The horsepower definitely wont be stock by the time I"m done with it. Thanks again for the advice guys.
