38 G Head Gasket

I just put a head gasket on a 38 G that had run only 40 pulls. The original John Deere gasket ran 15 years before burnt exhaust valve. This gasket is what ytmag and Sharps sells. Composition with just metal ring around cylinders. Deere no longer makes the F55R so trying to find something to use. 9 1/2 inch stroke and 9.5:1 compression. Lynn

Earl Yes I would like an original and will get a picture either today or tomorrow. The one that lasted 40 pulls fell completely apart so nothing to photograph. Will take a picture of the old one. Lynn

My brother-in-law is also looking for a original head gasket. His last one only lasted 6 times down the track. Could you e-mail me that information? thanks!

Earl Here is a picture of the first one. The one that lasted 15 years. Burnt valve is the reason we pulled the head but gasket was getting ready to let go. Let me know the source of the new gasket. Thanks a lot. Lynn

Matt We retorqued after we put it on dyno but maybe should have done it coupla more times but nuts were tight when we pulled it off. I just don't think the composition ones will hold unless the block is no longer flat. Checked the head when we had it off. Lynn

F49 Head needs to be reinforced at the long water holes in the combustion area. Do not use grease for a sealer. Email me and give me a phone number & when I can contact you. Your time zone?? Earl

Or could someone post where to acquire the good gasket for the G if you didn't want to be bothered with e-mailing.

I use the gaskets from Deere and they hold up just fine, I don't want to mention CR but it's quite a bit more than you guys and at 3000 rpm.

Torque the studs in 5 steps in a circular motion and it will hold, unless you have an F49 or something that is not reenforced then you might have issues.
