Pulling a cockshutt 40

Hi Guys.
I need some advice. I am going to pull my cockshutt 40 at the local fair for the 1st time. I just have no idea what gear to go in. Track is hard. I have 18.4-34's on pressed wheels. 30% tread. Gleaner 262 under the hood. No idea what I weigh in at. Wide front, and hydraulics on the tractor. Hitch is 20" height and as close as I can get it to the rear. Any and all advice or tips is appreciated.

With that setup, you will probably start out in the 5500 pound class especially if you still have pto still in it. You will not power it out in second gear, so I would start there, if it handled that good, next time try third gear and you will be able to keep speed up longer at the end of pull. Good luck.

those Cockshutt's are geared really low. 2nd gear on them is similar to first on most other tractors. so like tallpa said, start with 2nd and go from there. you're quite a bit stouter than stock with the 262 under the hood so you should be good.

I saw a 40 with 130hp stall out in the 5500lb 4mph class 2nd gear. You may try 1st in the heavy classes unless your pulling with a 10ft chain.
