I would go with a billet rod a lot easier to clearence the cam. I started to use a stock rod on mine. Glad I went with a local made billlet rod. Helped to see it before I bought it.

I used early small journal 77 rods in a super 88 years ago with a 5.5 stroke and a 4.375 bore. It took some work on the rods and the cam to make it swing but that was fifteen years and three owners ago and its still going strong. Billet rods will clear better but they sure aren"t cheap.

That made a good motor! I did basically the same thing going on 11 years now only I went with 5 inch stroke and same bore. Very dependable and yes there was some clearancing for sure! Still running strong.

My motor has the 3 7/8 bore is looking into making a 5.5 stroke with that bore realistic? Or am I gonna have issues with that bore to stroke ratio?
