Sigourney Rules

I have had a couple of lingering requests for rules changes. The first one is in regards to allowing duplex head, manifold or carburetors on John Deeres in the Classic. The second one is allowing Denny's header in Classic.

My question is; is it common to see these things in speed limit classes across the country?

John
I have a G Deere with a duplex carb. & a murrphy"s manifold with a John deere head.
I run 3.5mph & 5.0 and some open classes. Our rules allow that here in Michigan. I think puting on the duplex carb. is the same as putting on a very
large updraft carb on farmalls and so on.

Jon,
I current have no dog in the fight, however, you already allow 60"s & 70"s to run a duplex. Not sure why the lettered tractors would not be allowed to as well. I was asked about this rule during the pull & responded the same way.
In regards to the header, then allow any tube manifolds an any tractor. Thanks for at least asking before changing rules blindly.

I'm a huge fan of this pull and will go either way but, if you do allow Denny headers I agree with
JDTH you should allow any tube manifold on any tractor that can run Classic. Everywhere I go I have to run the cast manifold though.

Jon, There are a lot of clubs that now allow the duplex carbs/manifolds on JD's in speed limit classes. My local club(MATPA)has allowed them for several years now. The heads bolt on an "A" without mods, and on a "G" if the head is from the all-fuel 70. One thing to remember is that with a speed limit class, the horn takes care policing power. It doesn't matter how you achieve the power under the hood as you can only go so fast.

Any chance of 12port, or Massey 1100 head Oliver's and MM 800 jugs/heads? I could bring 2 tractors

I'd say leave as is as there haven't been many problems in the past. You will give a advantage to two colors of tractors that already benefit from an aftermarket parts source like Murphy's heads and blocks for jd's, the same only thicker head and manifold for farmalls ect. Look who's winning the 5500, it isn't the minority tractors.

I don't think the duplex Carb is that big of a deal. Its a speed limit class ,who cares where you get the power.by the way I am putting in a request for a 6000# classic

I agree with the tube header issue, If the organizations are going to allow one brand to use tube headers then all should be allowed, regardless of manufacture. As Doug pointed out and rightly so, this disparity of how some brands are given a pass while others are scrutinized with a fine tooth comb and restricted is the reason NATPA and like organizations have no credibility here in the East. If Farmall would have built their engines in a similar manner as the MMs all parts and interchangability would be legal. This is just politicking and we'll drop that there.

While the speed limit is an equalizer of sorts, it just tightens up the field and in my opinion you will find the same fellas at or near the top consistently whatever the rules. The reason, some put their heart and soul into it and pull every weekend and sometimes twice a weekend. They are gonna be better, have engines with real HP and HP gives you a definate edge at the far end of the track in pace classes.

The higher hp tractors are still going to do better in a speed limit class as they are not being pulled down into the engines torque curve that inevitably breaks the wheels loose.

I would like to come but the Classic year cut off at '55 and older a 20 series Deere can't pull. Don't have a chance in the open class. Also maybe add a few heavier classes in the Classic class, maybe up to 9000lb like the open class.

The Duplex is being allowed in many clubs here in Michigan, in my opinion they should be allowed.

Tube headers opens up a big can of worms, so I do not think they should be allowed.

Jon , once you let the cat out of the bag... Well you know the rest. Its a great pull do not see any reason to change.

Jon, you have put on a great show for many years and I look forward to it every spring, thank you for doing so. Your rules haven't been a problem so far, So if it aint broke don't fix it!

The point of a two barrel on a Deere is an advantage no doubt. The fact that other models can run carbs that were never designed for there engine that flow more air than a two barrel does is unfair. A Deere needs 2 cubes for everyone else's 1 then we are trying to feed it through a maximum Venturi of 1.375. I've seen tractors with carbs with a 2.5 inlet. Ours after bored are 1.95. The two barrel rule has no effect on whether we come to sigourney or not. We have set ups for both rules but it would be nice to feed the deeres to the same advantage that all the other models get. Figure 20% over rpm if lucky deeres will gain 10-15 hp. What's custom intake worth hp wise? If its equal throw them all in the loop. Like some people have already said your limited on rpm and your limited on mph. I've beat 180 hp m's with a 100 hp A before. When limited in speed and rpm it equals the field.
