hey guys! on to the next question for my motor build! what spark plugs should use? its c281,tisco pistons, 400 crankshaft, new 450 lp head, new valeves, springs etc,new lp manifold, new petronix ignition, new 450 cam,new cam bearings, and all other bearings obviously, stock stroke, an m carb with a bowl off a 301 combine engine with the big metering stem and a # 27 venturie, and a higher octane gas since ill have quite a bit of compresion.. my question is what should run for spark plugs?? i think whats in my stock M are d16 champions, but idk if those wouldbe what to run! any help would be greatful guys!

Champions are the worst plug out there. Not knocking them, it's just the truth. NGK is probably the best, but anything other than Champion is good.

according to the Nebraska test the compression ratio should be 8.34 to 1 and have a static compression of 225 psi . I run a autolite 3116 in my 450 which has like compression and a 29 venturi which gives it about 71 hp . set the timing dead on 25 degrees at 1600 rpm and run 110 octane any less on octane may melt the piston top . have fun . the gap on the plug is .025 and will cause a miss in the engine if opened to much more because of cylinder pressure . put a heavier spring in the governor it will operate a lot sweeter at 1760 to 1900 rpm . hope this helps

Here's what happend to the Champion spark plug yesterday in my 425 John Deere garden tractor. Made a helluva bang! Thought I blew a hole in the block when it happened!

I am currently running Delco Rapid-fire plugs (no. 4) in my Massey 44. I set the gap at .045 initially and have had good results compared to Champion D18 plugs).

In my opion NGK AB-6 is far superior to all others been running them for several years with not one failure they seem a little hotter and work well with MSD or without they will take more fuel without fouling than any other brand ive found and ive tried them all. I will not use anything else even in a stock nonpuller
