I have a 450 engine and nothing done to it and was going to pull with it this year and was wondering when I go to time it do I advance or retard it to get the best power when its under a load while pulling

To do this properly, you need some dyno time. You can tune it by ear on the dyno. I like to do it at about 500 pto RPM.

If you don't have a dyno, set it to about 25-27 with a timing light if its stock. Maybe 22-23 if you have higher compression.

If you don't have a dyno or an advance timing light, then leave it alone.

don't advance the timing.the motor sounds like it is running better but you will loose hp on a dyno.dyno tuning is always best but if you don't have one I would time it with a timing light to get it close.then turn the dist until the engine seems to run a little more "free" then move it the other way until it starts to labor just a little this is the point that it will make the most power in my experience.ep
