I was going to say them also they make custom copper gaskets from .010 to 1/4 inch thick I just sent a buddy to them the other day....I am shure they can do a fire ring in it no problem....

Lubbocks workmanship is poor, holes don't align and bores are often not centered, I bought one of their pos gaskets once and it lasted 5 minutes in an engine with a squared deck and .003 sleeve protrusion, I called them to see if they had any ideas on the failure to give them the benefit of the doubt, the only thing they said is that they could make me another one for the same money so I now give them all the free advertising they can stand, several reputable engine builders I know won't use their crap either

in the atv, snowmobile world I use cometic gasket company....I know they make automotive gaskets as well and can probly custom make a tractor one as well also.....I have never asked them if they could make tractor copper gaskets while on the phone...shure then can if you send them a old one or something...

Got to agree with Doug, I got so frustrated trying to get a good gasket from them n finally gave up. Just like throw n money down a rat hole.

Use no head gaskets now, just copper fire rings n a tube of Red RTV.

Have no use for a fibre or copper gasket at all. All I need I can get at the local hardware store.

It is in a farmall 400 block.I just got a new propane head and after taking some measurement it is going to be very close if I fire ring the sleeve, then the ring will be in the combustion area in the head. Thus not sealing in that area.I could shift the centerline around a little, to get that ring where I want it.I was just thinking a head gasket with the ring in it might save me some trouble.

So I take it that you are more than willing to provide a suitable alternative to Lubbock...?

Mr Gasket,

I am quite sure that Doug uses the same system that I do, so for our application, yes, we have created our own solution. Doug's response was not out of line in any way as we have both had the exact same experience with Lubbock.

If I were seeking advice on an issue I would want to hear all comments so I could judge which way to proceed.

Many on forum have had bad experiences with other suppliers of the tractor pulling market and no one seems to mind hearing those comments so why should Lubbock be any different.

Look at it like Doug was looking out for the inquiring individual, I would want to know before I dumped a huge sum of money out.

Mel -

I understand your position. You have to understand mine: Not everyone wants to explore uncharted territory with the "gasketless" design. Some people may want the simplicity of drop on a gasket and torque it down. In addition, others may be running cylinder pressures that do not require a high performance sealing system. Fortunately, Lubbock fills this need.

My experience with Lubbock is Garbage IN Garbage Out. If you send a decent imprint of a block you will get a decent gasket back. When I have had a mislocated bore, they have always made it right with me. They told me flat out: The most accurate way to have gaskets made was to tool it up on their waterjet. You can have a base gasket with bore centers programmed then have whatever size bore cut when ordered.

I guess that's one guys bad experience (dboll) countered with one guys good experience (mine).

Gasket,

I understand garbage in garbage out very well.

We supplied Lubbock with a accurate tapping of the block surface which we still have in our posession. The finished gasket as supplied hung over the bore and would not have sealed on the sleeve flange and torqued down would have interferred with the piston travel.

I do understand the drop on and torque theory with a gasket at moderate compression ratios but fire ring failure was a problem at the CR's that we like to run.

I must defend Doug in this matter, he is my friend, we have spent some time together at his farm looking his pulling iron over and talk at times via phone and he pulls with some of the best in his area and has a few trophys and ribbons. Please do not come down to hard on him as he just says what he thinks right out front, you never have to guess where he stands on an issue, that's not a bad thing.

Mr. Gasket, I sent them a factory gasket for a pattern and I did all of the proper machine work. I don't see any garbage from my side. I called them to talk with them and see if there was anything done on my part that could have contributed to the failure to which they were no help. I have rebuilt many diesel and gas engines as we have always did our own work on the farm as well as doing jobs for others. I have also worked in a Case and jd dealership where my work was respected and I know what it takes to hold a gasket so I would appreciate you giving me the benefit of the doubt that I might know what I am talking about. Go to a national pull and visit with others, you will hear the same thing. Maybe a Model T gasket would be within their abilities.

I guess we had the same luck with Lubbock...

Try Flatout Gaskets... they make rubber coated copper gaskets... they can also make a thin band/shim you can put on the block or head, since you can't O-ring it..
Or maybe you can O-ring the head...
