Broken front axle

Just a comment,I was at the NATPA pullin Columbia this weekendand am speaking of the 300 Farmall that broke the front axle when pulling .The NATPA makes rules for safety for all but the broad membersand they don"t have go by them. Ther was no way that tractor should been able to come back and pull again.I seen the club pres. and a tech man walk in front of that tractor and just shake there head but still let him pull again. Just my opinion, like hear some more thoughts Gus

This one was floating around Facebook.

You asked for it so in my opinion,

When a championship is on the line and parts break you do what you have to trying to wrap it up. When it broke the first time a whole group of us said, "if it was me I'd strap it together and finish the day."

This thread should be about perseverance not ripping on the NATPA and the board members, plus Jim put on a good show.

I went to Springfield a year ago and my wheelbars was to 2"to high and i couldn't pull till they were fix. So tell what me whats safer my wheelie bars or something that dig in ground and could very easy flip when there is no speed limit, and i don't hide behind a tractor name to post either, Super ih

my opinion is that a person that can spend that money in aluminum rear wheels and that paint job should be able to have a safe tractor to pull with. if safety is going to be one of the main issues then it should be for everyone and someone should inspect the changes like homemade wide fronts and things that were not factory. just my two cents worth

Here's what happened to me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXeIu_lRbrs
And I still won a ribbon--that's what it's all about. Win at all costs. Life is good.
I still chuckle when I watch my expression when it breaks.

So did you persevere and lower your wheel bars so you could pull, or get mad and go home?

Oh, and as far as my name, I'm Batman.

Things like this is what gives NTPA a bad name.It keeps people like me from going because I don't like the drama.I am not saying what is wrong and what is right but are we forgetting that this is for fun and lets go have a good time.We all now that when we leave home that we lost money so lets enjoy the day and not go quibble over little things.Leroy Brave

So what was the danger Gus? If a wheelie bar is too high the tractor can flip over backwards but I don't think this was a danger to anyone. I guess you do so explain to us morons what the danger was. Please.

Jim

What was the danger here? Are you kidding me?! You can sit there and say that nothing in a million years could've possibly went wrong in this scenario? Whatever you say man.

Did the front end collapse during the pull after they came back? If not, did some one examine and determine it was likely to fail again after repairs were done?

If a sufficient large/heavy piece of steel was slid inside the two halves and the halves welded back together it was probably more than strong enough. I have no idea if this was done or not, but it comes to mind as one way to temporarily repair and keep it safe.

Well you gave me he!! but you didn't answer my question. In a million years I won't be here and neither will that tractor or you. A little far reaching comments it seems.

Jim

Didn't give any hel! but if that's how you want to look at it go right ahead. Way to use your imagination on the million year thing. How bout you use it to picture the bad that could've came of this incident.

I'm no safety freak and despise this "sue happy" world, but that one seems rather obvious. You're kinda stacking the deck of fate with that make shift patch job. Not that I havent skirted by, but I do it at home and have been lucky so far. Glad no one was hurt.

My 2 cents for what its worth, nice looking tractor but if the tractor is not in check, meaning not held together with straps, and rope it should have never hooked to a sled!
When a organization starts giving the go ahead to allow a broken tractor run down the track, a person could think that favoritism plays into the game.
If you know your tractor is border line, why take a chance on your safety and the children around you. Ask yourself is it really worth pounding someone for saying this is wrong!

Well, since he's given us no feedback indicating the temporary repairs were just baling wire, duct tape and a prayer or something halfway well executed, I see no reason to assume it was the former rather than the latter.

So I am wondering how many of you guys did he beat? I figure he must have really whipped ya bad to stir up this much discussion over a broken front end. If it carried him on the track and then off the track, who was in danger? The strain of the pull is on the rear axel.

I have never seen an accident where a tractor came down at the end of a pull and broke the front end and someone got hurt other than their feelings, maybe if I go to a million pulls I will.
