how do you "wire the govenor" on a farmall M for more rpms for pulling... ive read other posts about how a 450 cam runs out at 1900 rpms. my m runs around 1700 rpms and i want to get just a little more out if possible

Have you taken the cover off to see what's inside? There is a throttle stop bolt you can back out to get a few more RPM if your not looking for a lot.

yeah i have and i had the tractor on the dyno and it has 1700 rpms wide open and that throttle stop is backed out as far as it can go so it doesnt touch the cast

i took some allthread (threded rod) and bent it to go where the spring goes. make sure to make it when the throttle is ideling. or not full thrttle. so it will not rev up when you start it. this will make it so you can have as many RPMS as you want. Hope this helps,

Good way to DIE, & take a few spectators with you! Very dangerous, the flyeheel will explode, like a hand grenade, at some point not super far above stock rpm. Thats why the rules limit this. There should be safer ways to get to 20% over, allowed by the rules, be safe & good luck :)

Get a stiffer spring. Go to TSC and get (I think) a number 175 spring. A little stiffer and a little shorter.

Another way is to grind some of the fly weights down so that they are lighter.

You can also work over the throttle linkage so that you can push the governor arm further and get the stop screw to touch.

Don't "wire" it or connect it solid. That's a real safety issue.

Pulling for fun, It wont be much fun when someone gets hurt from your thoughtless post.
I sure hope people are smart enough NOT to listen and do this.

from the posts im getting i wont do that now. just wondering if a little more rpm would help and how safe it is to go with it and seeing what all your opinions on the subject matter is. thanks for the great advice. and yes our pulling club is key on saftey, just have always overheard the same few guys always complain about someone that has the govenor "wired" and thats why they lost! lol ..
