Cheaper build

Now that I have two tractors ('48 "A" and a '50 "G") I want to have one as a dedicated puller and one will be a joy riding rig. Which would make for a cheaper build, getting the model A to 55 horsepower or getting the "G" to 65 horsepower?

either one is easy and cheap but id build g into puller they both will pull same classes weight wise...cheap build on g would just be .125 over al pistons..have josh blackburn lengthen your rods and ratio your rockers..open up cyclone hd..you should be able to get 75hp no problem

Both have the tall gears, I would go with the G as stated below. Not sure what kind of class you plan on entering.. the build stated below would be considered a cheap build, you wont be able to go higher than first gear, still. Everything would have to set up perfectly to get around 75. Also pressed steel wheels on the back would enable you to pull around 5500 lb and up.

The local club has a 1 horse per 100 pound limit on the antique class so rather than trying to cut a bunch of weight I was thinking that I'd either run the A in the 5500 lb class with a 55 hp max, or run the G in the 6500 lb class with a max of 65 hp. I could try lightening the G to 5500 lbs and just putting in some gas pistons to get my 55 hp, but the club requires a PTO so an aluminum flatback is not an option.

easier to get enough snuff to pull a G in 6500, vs a tall gear A in the 5500 regarding cheaper, non stroker builds, in my opinion.
