Ive been thinking about building a wc or wd to pull lite..1st questions which tractor is better to start with wc or wd? And will a wd45 crank fit in both of them to gain 1/2 of stroke? Which hd do i want to use wc..wd or wd45? Thanks

the wc is a little easier to get light but a lot of people are messed up by the hand brakes. i would start with a wd or wd45.

If you plan on building a more mild engine using similar to stock components, stick with a WD. The gear ration is much better especially if you plan on running 38" tires. The motor parts from the WC WD WD45 all interchange other than early heads on later blocks.

I would start with a WD45 they are .6 mph slower than a WD in low gear at 2000 rpm. 4.2 with 15.5X38 tires. Then put a early D17 ring and pinion or a WD45 diesel, in it and you are 3.6. at 2000. Almost the same as a WC with RC ring and pinion. But the RC gears are a lot harder to find than the D17. Or just start with a D17 to start with. The old ones are about the same price, and all you would have to do is take things off. If you get really serious there shouldn't be but 100 lbs difference. Vic

I guess that I"m the spoiler here. My vote goes to the WC, but I"ll freely admit that I do have a serious WC bias, because I"ve had so much success with my WC pullers. When you say that you want to pull lite...how lite? We"ve pulled a styled WC at 3,000 lbs. without doing anything extreme to get there. It"s a lot more involved getting a WD or WD45 that lite. Kip

Id like to beable to get into 3 or 3500...all my jds pull 5500 and up..ive got a line on a wd that needs motor job..and ive got a chance to buy a wd45 motor...i was thinking about putting 45 crank in wd with 4.125 over bore kit..maybe a little hd work..38in tires...what do you guys think it would make for hp and do u think it would pull good?

Is there any diff in wd and wd45 head is one better than other...should i just put 45 crank in wd or rebuild complete wd45 motor and put it in wd?

id splurge a little for an offset grind to 4.875 stroke with 4.125 pistons. you will make 60-65 hp depending on your setup and will have plenty of power past the weight that an allis likes.

not sure how hard the rods will be to find but the bushings for the flattop pistons will probably have to be made. couldnt find any when i built my wd45 in 08.

If you have a 45 crank, which is 4.5 and you just stroke it to 5.0 you don't need to change anything. It will just push your piston up 1/4 of a inch. HAPI at Terre Haute In. will stroke your crank for 800 and there turn-around a month ago was 1 week. If you still want them, we have some 262 rods. Vic

I have the kind of motor you are talking about in my tractor. WD45 crank with 4.125 pistons. Ported head and manifold. Gleaner carb , the key was the pistons are a older power crater that comes right up to the top of the deck, without race gas i was making 65hp and that is on a proven dyno. I am changeing carbs and running race gas this year and as soon as the roads get better i will be doing some dyno tuning to get it dialed in. I also vote WC....I actually pull Unstyled WC"s even lighter. I get down to 3000 easy

my 45 with the diesel rearend will run 3.2 mph at 1900 rpms in first gear with 15.5x38 tires. the advantage is that i have pulled as heavy as 6500lbs with it and never stalled and they wonder how it can do that with a small motor and tractor.
