critique my pull

Don't know what else you could do- I have never seen so many people at a antique pull!!! you must be doing everything right! GOOD JOB!

Looks to me like you have everything pretty much right. Tires squat, but not excessively, balance looks perfect, hard to tell about hitch but, if it had been in further you would have had less draft from the sled. The big thing is the color of the tractor. You need to jack up that beautiful chrome stack and get something dark green or red or yellow or orange under it. With any of them you can get the power you need at a fraction of what it will cost you to do it with that two banger.

Yep, a few more ponies is about all you need. On a side note, that sled was built by Alan Vanderzanden. I heard there was one that made it down to California. What club do you pull with down there? I would love to come down sometime.

Zack

That is the wrong color green lol. Looked ok. I think that tractor is a little nose heavy in that class. Guess power is the biggest problem at this point in this weight class. my 2cs.

(quoted from post at 02:58:15 03/18/13) can do no more with out a lot more power, good job. Did you win?????

Thanks for the kind words but no, that was my second pull and also my second last place . If I remember right I pulled 138.? feet, first place pulled 172.? feet and the other eight guys were anywheres inbetween. Other than a set of aluminum gas pistons (not m?w high compression style) my tractor is stock. Other than adding a hole in the drawbar so I could shorten it up there's nothing really done to it. No weight brackets or anything so it sounds like Deere had it set up pretty close from the factory. I am overweight for that class but the guys don't care. I'm not in the club pulling for points and I'm I'm no threat to them.......yet.

I'm not a club member but the CVTPA (central valley tractor pullers assoc.) Put on that pull.

Put your drawbar on top of the two pieces with all the holes for swinging adjustment. Make a plate with two holes and put on top of drawbar, two longer bolts go through everything. I put a spacer on one of the bolts in between where the drawbar normally goes so the bottom one gets some weight as I belive its thicker.A later model a would have a slower 1st gear.

Like the rest, more power. Not slower gears. Try 1 to 2 psi in your tires. Lose the power trol, pto, and the cast wheels. Make your drawbar as high and as short as possible, as per your rules. And Last but not least, the back from your seat. Vic

You can change the primary reduction gear and clutch gear to slow the tractor down.Drawbar changes won't help enough until you spin out. Easy mod with gears form an A with a single lever gear shift.
Second remove the cap from the air intake stack, grind off rivets, and look down it with a bright light. If there is mud in the bottom this will reduce your air intake, offsetting the piston help. Also remove the screen mesh from the oil bath assembly to improve air flow.
Use a dyno to max the HP with load and idle jets on the carb.
If yours is a fuel burner(two gas caps),change to a gas carburator and manifold.
Until you know the HP from a dyno, you could have several issues.
I won DIV1 5000 and 5500 in our club in 2011 with the above changes and pulled in 1st gear 90% of the time.
Good Luck!

I forgot about the gear change. I actually did change the primary reduction gears for that pull. It does have a gas carb. I'll check out my air cleaner. Thanks.

Are your RPM's set at the max? It sounded a little low... If you are running out of HP, try lowering your draw bar a little..

My dad and brother said the same thing. I had removed the throttle stop bolt to get all she had but it still didn't sound as lively as the other two cylinders that were pulling. I made a backing plate to stiffen the governor spring for the next pull.

if they're still there, take the tractor to the Erb Bros. shop over by Turlock. They used to build up two cylinder John Deeres that could pull. Whatever your tractor needs some serious tuning. The governor spring booster will help if the spring has any starch left in it at all. It looks like you!re running kinda lean, it ought to smoke just a tad when it's pulling hard and "crack" pretty loud. Everything else others sais will help, but seriously chrome stacks and pressed steel wheels don' t give you more power or pulling capability

Thanks. I actually know Sam Erb quite well. His step son and I were best buds in high school. I know he'd help me out but it seems like they work on EVERYBODY'S tractors around here so I kinda just wanted to do my thing all on my own. I'll try richening her up a little. The motor may have a dull sound too because the is a factory muffler under the stack.
