What starters are being used on a farmall 409 I have the 6volt on it and all it wants to do is grunt when turned over?
I have changed everything on it but the starter

What compression ratio are you running? A 6V starter on a 12V system with heavy cables and a heavy cranking amp battery should easily turn a 409 inch engine. This is assuming the starter is good mechanically and electrically. A starter with bad brushes and bushings which allow armature drag on the field shoes will not deliver the needed torque but as stated earlier a 6 V starter in good condition should do it.
