I have a 77 with a slit rear main seal leak, is any good additive that will stop this without replacing the rope seal? Thanks......

Showdown, if this an Oliver 77 it doesn't have a rope seal, it has spring loaded cork seal that rides against a cover on the back of the block. they all seem to leak a little. if you decide to replace you can get a kit from Korves to make it a lip type seal and fix it good. the flywheel needs to be removed to install it. as far a the additive, I don't know if that will work, but I doubt it. Thanks Chuck that what I thought. When the guy rebuild the engine he didn't soak the cork gasket overnight before installing it I found out later, so I guess thats way it drips a little. It's been like that for 6 yrs., and has't got on the disc. yet I guess. I hated to open it up if I didn't have to............
