Has any one every had trouble with the differential gear spinning on the cast hub. Looks like the gear is pressed on and then they drill it and install some kind of rivet and mine has spun on those rivets.
 
Yes I have seen that. We weld 1" welds all the way around the gear. Have not had a problem sense.
 
3/8 pin is fine, and 3 will work. space them out about the same as the factory rivets are. make sure you have a real good center punch when you go to drill your holes so the drill bit doesnt walk on you, because the gear is much harder than the cast. split the difference between the casting and the gear and drill it out. we always put some locktight on the pin before putting it in and then pean the edges over with a punch. pinning will be more durable then welding it.
