So I"m putting a 6" g crank in a u. Using 4 5/8 jugs an pistons from a 336 engine. I"m wondering what to use for rods. Planning on having the crank machined for smaller rod journals but the u rods are about .700 too long. Trying to do this on a budget an reuse the stock 4 5/8 pistons as I have them with the jugs. Thanks

A couple of options would be to use the U rods and spacer plates under the blocks or machine a little off the top of the pistons, or a combo of the two to reset the deck height.

You have to be careful how thick you go with spacer plates. Can't go too far before your push rods get too short, and after that, the block studs start getting short as well. At .250" you're looking for new push rods. Just my $.02

Ok, so maybe this is not the answer you are seeking, but they make a piston the correct height for your application. Otherwise, I'd use a Massey 85 diesel rod (same size as 44 I think). This is with a 6-3/16" offset grind. You'd have to use a thicker block gasket and shave the piston to make up for about 3/16" too tall. Verify cuz this is outa the top of my head. Lubbock Gasket can make a thicker block gasket. Not sure how thick. I've bought a hard 1/8" one before. .1 off each end would more than do it, but depends on how thick the piston is. A plain 6" stroke needs only about .050 off each. My 2 cents.
