I bought this Farmall m about 4 years a go and this past year i started pulling it and i was wondering how i can get little more horsepower out of the m some people told me to put a super m carb on it and take the stock air cleaner off and that would give it some power but i dont no i was wondering if someone else would no

I've been in your shoes i found that a good govenor, good fuel and ignition system will help some.not much you can do without getting into motor and not your wallet at the same time

yea that what i was thinking my m its got good govenor and my m has the old mag on it and i was thinking about putting good hotter coil on it what do you suggest?

You need to put your tractor on a dyno and see what you have 50 hp is all that mine had stock. My super M after some cylnder head work and carb work would get 64 maybe 65 on the dyno but was a good farmstock tractor. If you want to go and pull anywhere then spend the money and go over 500 ci It will make enough power to run any speed limit class you want to get in.

Go with a 436 you can run division 3 with that engine in the lighter classes and be competitive. Going with a stock M and a good cylnder head wont get it done. Ive done that go with cubic inches and you will have some power. Its not alot of money to go in the 400 range.

Where do you pull? What type of class or division? How much power are you thinking you need? What are the rules: stock block? Stock head? RPMs? Fuel?

Are we talkin farm stock or Div 4 or the county fair?

A good govenor is critical. I have learned a lot of little things that often times people on here will not reveal. I have a 281 that I am up to 70 hp and I have less than $250 in it. Email me if you are interested.

Lamonte, Sweet Springs,Marshall MO I pull my m in division 2 stock class. I was thinking 60 to 70 hp at of it. we can have stock block we can do thing in side but we need keep it stock look we run about 2500 rpms run gas only.

Depending on the track and the speed, 70hp might do it, or might not.

You can have your block bored to accept 4.25" pistons. Makes 298ci with stock stroke. Along with carb work, cam work, and head work, that should get you 65-70hp.

If you are limited to pump gas (93 octane) then you had better stop at about 9:1 for compression. If you are allowed better fuel, 11 or 12 compression works a lot better.

If you want to turn 2500rpm you will need considerable carb work and a custom cam to match that engine speed. Many people will tell you that your motor will live a lot longer if you stay at 2000rpm.

If you are allowed, a 450 head will help too.

I found a 450 head and a set of 4" M&w pistons do think could get up to 50 hp? And is there a difference in a m card and super m carb?
