Aftermarket Deere head?

I've been saving up for a while so I can do a few mods to my '48 model A all at one time. I'm getting real close now and was wondering if it would be more cost effective to buy an aftermarket head or just have the factory head worked over. I'm not going with a big cube motor. Stock stroke and .125 overbore gas pistons. Is an $1800 head going to make more power than a reworked factory head on a small cube motor?

We have a late A thats all stock except .125 over w/ the head &
manifold worked over & a hot mag . It runs pretty good for what
it is.We pull 4500-6000lb 2nd gear w/13.6s no problem

9 by 6.125 A with cyclone head making 99 hp. Your head
with 600 put in it will flow all the air you need. Put the other
1200 into a big journal 9 inch crank

Ill let you know... going with the extreme tractor parts head on my 51" puller. raise the compression a bit and let a little more flow. had a stock 51" head shave a 1/4 inch on it when we bought tractor and it didnt work.
Also, like to get josh"s number to see about carb work.

That's the head I was thinking about. My e mail is always open so let me know how it works out for you. When you say that you shaved the factory head and "it didn't work", what do you mean? Not the compression gains that you had hoped for?

we have a head that is ported polished and has big valves. we are not pulling Deeres anymore and would sell this one

Milled? How far? Who did the work? What are you asking?
