Horse Power

262 engine was the same as the D19 Allis. That was around 70 horse. Engine was rated at around 2000 rpm and high idle around 2200. 230 in a 40 was 1650 rated and hi idle 1850. I don't think the 230 would be much over 50 horse or so.

I"ve seen posts that the gleaner 230 will put out 55hp in a cockshutt 40. The guy that told this has videos on youtube searce cockshutt pull and it has difernt weight classes. He said that it was a gleaner 230 in the tractor.

I know the guy that built the Cockshutt 40 that is in the YouTube videos. It was a 230 Gleaner that was dyno tuned...i.e. the carb was changed and dialed in, there was extensive governor tuning, and of course the timing was set accordingly and yes indeed, it did make 55-56 pto Hp. Unfortunately for him, he had to sell it and lucky for the guy who now ones it.
